Ayurveda is a branch of the larger philosophy of knowledge known as the Vedas. So really the question is “ What is Vedic Coaching” which includes, at least from my part, Ayurveda and Yoga, two sister science of the Vedic traditions.
Maybe we should step back just one more step and ask “What are the Vedas?”
The Vedas are considered the earliest literary record of Indo-Aryan civilization and the most sacred books of India. They are the original scriptures of Hindu teachings, containing spiritual knowledge encompassing all aspects of life. The philosophical maxims of Vedic literature have stood the test of time, and the Vedas form the highest religious authority for all aspects of Hinduism and are a respected source of wisdom for mankind in general.
“Do not be led by others,
awaken your own mind,
amass your own experience,
and decide for yourself your own path.”
―
It is difficult to say when the earliest portions of the Vedas came into existence, but it seems clear they are among the very earliest written wisdom documents produced by humans. As the ancient Hindus seldom kept any historical record of their religious, literary, and political realization, it is difficult to determine the period of the Vedas with precision. Historians provide us many guesses but none are guaranteed to be precise. It is thought, though, that the earliest Vegas may date back to roughly 1700 BCE—the late Bronze Age.
Yoga is first and foremost a science of Self-realization.
Ayurveda is primarily a science of self-healing aimed at relieving the diseases of the body and mind.
As mentioned above, Yoga and Ayurveda are two closely related spiritual or sacred sciences rooted in the Vedic tradition of India.
Ayurveda is the Vedic science for healing both body and mind. Yoga is the Vedic science of Self-realization that depends upon a well-functioning body and mind.
Vedic Coaching emphasizes the role of Yoga and Ayurveda for both body and mind, stressing the importance of behavioral modifications and lifestyle changes as a foundation for an integral healing modality. Coaching provides guidance and motivation for balancing the body, mind, and consciousness.
These Vedic techniques include a full range of natural healing practices for body and mind, including diet, bodywork, herbs, and lifestyle recommendations, along with special Yoga methods for unfolding higher capacities of energies that include exercises, meditations, and mantras.1
Vedic coaching is based upon the “Vedic laws of right living”; how to live in harmony with the greater conscious universe, and with respect for the sacred nature of life.
The most widely acknowledged coaching situation in the history of India is that of the dialogue between Krishna and the warrior Arjuna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra (allegorically, the battle for your mind) recounted in the Bhagavad Gita.
Krishna asks deep and difficult questions that cause Arjuna to reflect and find within himself the most profound and transformative answers about life. Krishna does not assume responsibility for Arjuna, nor tell him what he should do. He systematically guides Arjuna to deeper and deeper insights of understanding so his own intelligence can discover the truth for himself!
Should you choose to consider this path for self-development you would be asked to answer a series of questions about your diet and lifestyle so your current body constitution or dosha so your body mind and consciousness can be accessed and then brought back into balance for optimum mental, physical and spiritual wellbeing. This is achieved through specific diet, exercise, and lifestyle for your specific dosha.
The great thing about this pathway to well being is that the more you bring your self into balance, the more intuitive living life in a healthy and harmonious way becomes. Soon enough, you will be guiding yourself along the path to peace and optimum health and wellbeing with only your inner self as your coach.
